As entrepreneurs and business owners, we pour our heart and soul into our work. But over time, stress, burnout, and the daily grind can chip away at the passion that once fueled us. What if the secret to revitalizing our businesses wasn’t found in hustle culture, rigid control, or fear-based leadership—but in something as simple yet profound as love?
Welcome to day six of the Business Bliss Challenge, where we explore the leadership superpower that can transform not just your business, but the world around you: Leading with Love.
Too often, leadership is associated with authority, control, and even fear. Many leaders operate from a place of scarcity—micromanaging, criticizing, and prioritizing profits over people. While this approach may generate short-term gains, it often leads to disengaged employees, high turnover rates, and a toxic work culture.
Early in my own entrepreneurial journey, I mistakenly believed that success meant being tough, authoritative, and in control at all times. I thought leadership was about proving my power rather than fostering collaboration. But instead of creating a high-performing team, I ended up feeling isolated, overwhelmed, and disconnected from the very people I was trying to lead.
It took time—and plenty of mistakes—to realize that the best leaders don’t lead with fear. They lead with love.
Leading with love doesn’t mean being a pushover. It doesn’t mean avoiding difficult conversations or making decisions based purely on emotion. Instead, it means embracing empathy, compassion, and a heart-centered approach to leadership.
Here’s what leading with love looks like in practice:
One of my favorite things we do in my business is our “Wins” channel in Slack. Whenever someone achieves something—no matter how big or small—we celebrate it together. It fosters a culture of support, positivity, and gratitude. This kind of leadership turns a workplace into a family—not necessarily the one we were born into, but the one we choose to build.
If you’re ready to transform your leadership style, here are some actionable ways to start leading with love today:
The foundation of leading with love begins with how you treat yourself. As the saying goes, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” If you’re burned out, exhausted, and running on empty, it’s impossible to show up as a compassionate and supportive leader.
Take time to care for yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally. This might mean:
By prioritizing your own well-being, you’ll be in a better position to support and uplift others.
How often do we rush through conversations without truly listening? Leading with love requires slowing down and making a genuine effort to hear what our employees, clients, and team members are saying.
Simple ways to practice active listening:
When people feel heard and valued, they are far more engaged and motivated to contribute.
We often think of leaders as people who must always have the answers, always be strong, and never show weakness. But in reality, the most impactful leaders are those who embrace vulnerability and authenticity.
Sharing your struggles, lessons, and even failures with your team creates a culture of trust and openness. It shows that it’s okay to be human. As leadership expert Brené Brown says, “Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our most accurate measure of courage.”
However, leading with vulnerability doesn’t mean oversharing or lacking boundaries. It means being real, honest, and transparent in a way that fosters connection and trust.
Before making key business decisions, take a moment to ask yourself:
By using love as a guiding principle, you ensure that your leadership is both ethical and impactful.
One of the easiest yet most powerful ways to lead with love is by expressing genuine appreciation. A simple “thank you,” “I appreciate you,” or “You’re amazing at what you do” can go a long way in uplifting someone’s day.
A fascinating thing happens when you tell people they’re great—they start showing up as their best selves more often. By focusing on what your team is doing right instead of constantly criticizing what they’re doing wrong, you create an environment that nurtures success and confidence.
Stress and burnout can cloud your ability to lead with love. Nutrition plays a key role in managing stress levels, and something as simple as incorporating healing foods can make a big difference.
Take the mango, for example. This vibrant fruit is packed with phytochemicals and amino acids that help calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and even improve sleep. Plus, mangoes teach us something valuable about leadership—they thrive in extreme heat, yet they remain sweet and nourishing. Just like a mango withstands the sun’s intensity, we, too, can develop resilience while maintaining kindness and love in our leadership.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, grab a mango and remind yourself that you have the power to stay calm and collected—even in high-pressure situations.
When you lead with love, you create a ripple effect that extends far beyond your business. Your team becomes more engaged, your clients feel the difference, and ultimately, you contribute to a more compassionate world.
Small business owners hold incredible power. Collectively, we outnumber big corporations, and the way we lead has a direct impact on communities, families, and industries. By choosing love over fear, we create businesses that don’t just generate profits but also leave a lasting positive legacy.
So, here’s my challenge to you today: Take one action to infuse more love into your leadership. Whether it’s sending a message of appreciation, practicing self-care, or making a heart-centered decision—start today.
Your business, your team, and the world will thank you for it.
If this message resonates with you, share it with a fellow business owner who could benefit from a little more love in their leadership
